Ukrenergo details energy system status after Russia’s massive attack

“Emergency recovery work continues around the clock. By the end of the current day, energy workers plan to restore power to consumers in the Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts,” the message stated.

Additionally, Ukrenergo reported that Ukraine’s energy system continues to recover from the missile and drone attack, but it still faces a significant power deficit.

“Emergency repairs are underway at energy facilities. Hourly power outages for residential consumers and scheduled power limits for industry and businesses will be in place throughout the day (Nov. 29),” the state company said.

Ukrenergo also reported that due to adverse weather conditions, 14 settlements remained without power as of the morning of Nov. 29, including 11 in Chernihiv Oblast and three in Volyn Oblast.

Massive strike on energy sector

On the night and morning of Nov. 28, Russia launched missiles, including Kalibr, X-59/69, and X-101 from Tu-95MS bombers, as well as strike drones, targeting 188 sites in total. Air defense systems downed 79 missiles and 35 drones. The primary target was Ukraine’s energy sector.

Damage to infrastructure was reported in Rivne, Zhytomyr, Lutsk, Mykolaiv, and other cities, causing power and water supply disruptions. Destruction was also reported in Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn, Lviv, Sumy, and other oblasts. In Vinnytsia, Odesa, and Kyiv oblasts, private homes were damaged by missile strikes, and there were casualties.

In Kyiv, air defense repelled a missile and drone attack, with debris falling in two districts on the left bank.

Later, Ukrenergo reported that the Russian forces had launched their 11th massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s energy system since the beginning of 2024. As a result, rolling blackouts were introduced across Ukraine.
