Marco Rubio noted that the UN “has tremendous potential to be a tool for good in the world.” Despite this, he said, the organization today “has no answers and has played virtually no role.”
The U.S. secretary of state recalled that the UN has failed to resolve the war in Ukraine and stated that only thanks to the United States were the parties brought to the negotiating table.
At the same time, Rubio acknowledged that the United States also has not been able to resolve the situation with the war in Gaza. But he emphasized that it was the United States that “freed captives from the barbarians” (referring to the release of Israelis captured by Hamas terrorists in October 2023).
The Munich Security Conference is taking place from Feb. 13 to 15. It is attended by dozens of world leaders and senior officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
