Ukrainian defenders have shot down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter, worth $6 mln, using an FPV drone, Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert Brovdi (Madyar) reported on Sept. 29.

Update at 12:50 p.m.: Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) clarified that the downed helicopter was a Russian Mi-8, not a Mi-28 as initially reported.

The unit also released the full video of the strike.

Brovdi (call sign “Madyar”) earlier said that a Mi-28 had been destroyed:

“A Mi-28 helicopter was destroyed by an FPV drone operated by pilots of the 59th Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces,” he wrote, commenting on the released footage.

The 59th Separate Assault Brigade reported that the helicopter was destroyed near Kotlyarivka (Pokrovsk frontline).

The Mi-8 is a Russian multi-purpose helicopter used for troop and cargo transport, medical evacuation, and as a platform for close air support of ground forces.

The estimated cost of one Mi-8 helicopter is at least $6 million.
