Kravchenko previously outlined his key goals in the role, including gathering evidence for the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding Russian war crimes, restoring public trust in the prosecution system, and reestablishing the Prosecutor General’s Office as the chief coordinator among Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies.
Zelenskyy submitted Kravchenko’s nomination to the Verkhovna Rada on June 16. Lawmakers approved his appointment the following day.
Kravchenko has headed Ukraine’s State Tax Service since Dec. 31, 2024. He began his prosecutorial career in Crimea and later served in other regions of Ukraine after Russia’s occupation, including the Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
From 2021 to 2023, Kravchenko led the Bucha District Prosecutor’s Office, which investigated Russian war crimes following the liberation of the region. In 2023, he was a candidate for the top job at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
In April 2023, Zelenskyy appointed him head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, a position he held until Dec. 30, 2024.
Kravchenko replaces Andriy Kostin, who resigned as Prosecutor General on Oct. 22, 2024, amid investigations into the illegal granting of disability status to prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
