Russia has a massive informational influence on U.S. politics and its politicians, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with CBS News on April 13.

His statement follows Trump's comments on the Russian missile strike on the city of Sumy on April 13, which killed 34 people and injured 119 more. He called the Russian attack a "mistake", and “terrible thing".

“I believe, unfortunately, that Russian narratives are prevailing in the United States," Zelenskyy said.

"How can one witness our losses and suffering, understand what the Russians are doing, and still believe they are not the aggressors, that they did not start this war? This speaks to the enormous influence of Russia’s information policy on America, on U.S. politics, and on American politicians.”

The president recalled his visit to Washington in February, where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. At that time, Trump equated those killed in Ukraine with the Russian occupiers who had died.

“President Trump, as the strong President of a strong country, must stand with Ukraine," Zelenskyy concluded.

"I believe it is wrong that the USA wants to remain neutral.”
