Speeding car hits bus and plows into crowded Kyiv transit stop, two killed

A speeding passenger vehicle collided with a minibus and plowed into a crowded public transport stop on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in Kyiv on Aug. 19, killing two women and injuring four other people, Kyiv City Police reported.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. While police did not immediately specify the exact street address, the crash likely took place at the Londonska Street bus stop along Chokolivskyi Boulevard.
According to preliminary findings, a 23-year-old driver behind the wheel of a Volkswagen collided at high speed with a route bus before careening into the public transit shelter where people were waiting.
Two women died at the scene from their injuries. Four other victims were transported to the hospital with various injuries, including one man who remains in critical condition.
Law enforcement officers confirmed that the 23-year-old driver was sober at the time of the collision. Police detained the driver and opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules resulting in multiple deaths). Investigators, patrol officers, and emergency medical personnel worked at the scene to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
Following the fatal collision, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded the public that the Verkhovna Rada is scheduled to review a draft bill aimed at significantly increasing penalties for systematic speeding violations.
On June 5, a speeding Mercedes crashed into a crowded pedestrian underpass in Kyiv's Solomyanskyi District, killing a 12-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and two police officers aged 21 and 23, while injuring three other pedestrians.
