A Croatian court denied political refugee status and international protection to five Chechens, Chechen independent outlet Kavkaz.Reality wrote on April 16.
They can now be deported back to Russia, the representative of the Assembly of Chechens of Europe, Isa Dudayev, said.
"Interpreters of the court said that the verdict was issued without any evidence and was based on mere assumption that the applicants for protection were Islamist extremists," he said.
Chechens who were in Croatia in transit cited unwillingness to participate in the war against Ukraine among the reasons for claiming asylum.
They are currently staying in an immigration center and now may be transferred to another country or deported to Russia.
The final decision of the Croatian authorities is still unknown.
