A sweeping drone assault against Sochi demonstrated that Vladimir Putin cannot guarantee the safety of the Russian elite, Center for Countering Disinformation chief Andrii Kovalenko wrote on Sept. 10.
"Things did not go well in Sochi," he explained.
"A large portion of the Russian elite is now there, and this proves once again that Putin cannot guarantee their safety."
On the evening of Sept. 9, explosive uncrewed surface vessels (naval drones) and aerial strike drones targeted the resort city in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, sparking a large blaze along the waterfront promenade.
According to the independent investigative Telegram channel Astra, the fire erupted in Sochi’s central district near a restaurant and a prominent concert hall. The attack forced the immediate shutdown of an ongoing performance by Russian pop singer Tatyana Bulanova.
