Ternopil fire during air raid alert prompts safety warnings and air quality checks

A fire broke out overnight in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil during an air raid, the regional administration reported on Telegram on Aug. 20.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Air quality measurements are being carried out near Ternopil.

"The State Emergency Service and police are working at the site of the fire that broke out during the night air alert," the official report said.

Residents were advised not to leave the home unnecessarily when planning the day, and to limit children's time outdoors as much as possible, as well as to close windows and to thoroughly wash food brought in from the street.

Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal separately addressed the residents of Druzhba, Kutkivtsi, Pronyatyn, Novy Svit and Bila districts, urging them to close their windows tightly, not to post photos and videos, and not to spread false information on social networks.

An air alert was declared in Ternopil at 01:32 a.m. EET and lasted for just over an hour.
