Russian
troops and Wagner mercenaries continue their creeping advance in Bakhmut, where
the front line mainly runs along the main railway line, the UK Ministry of
Defense reported on Twitter on April 18.
Fierce fighting continues on the Donbas frontline. Russia may have reduced its troops and decreased offensive actions around Donetsk, likely to redirect resources to the Battle of Bakhmut.
Ukraine continues to hold back the Russian encirclement from the south along Korsunska Street, the old main road to the west of the city, said the UK Ministry.
When and how troops are withdrawn from the Bakhmut area has become a critical issue for both sides — Ukraine wants to release its forces to assist with a counteroffensive, while Russia is likely seeking to restore its operational reserve.
