Russians on offensive in Donbas, says General Staff

Ukrainian forces repelled several Russian attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts over the last day, according to the Ukrainian General Staff’s morning update on Dec. 16 on Facebook.
According to the military, over the day, Ukrainian units repulsed Russian attacks near five settlements in Luhansk Oblast, as well as the towns of Soledar, Bakhmut, Maryinka and 14 other settlements in Donetsk Oblast.
Meanwhile, Russian forces carried out 23 air and four missile strikes, including two on civilian objects in Kharkiv. Also, the Russian military conducted 78 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems, including on residential areas – causing a number of civilian casualties.
On the Volyn, Polissya and Siverskyi axes, the situation is without significant changes; no signs of enemy strike groups were detected. Mortar attacks were registered near Zapsil and Popivka in Sumy Oblast.
On the Slobozhanskyi axis, the Russian army fired from tanks and artillery near seven settlements in Kharkiv Oblast.
On the Kupyansk axis, the Russians fired from tanks, mortars, cannon and rocket artillery near seven settlements in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Stelmakhivka and Myasozharivka in Luhansk Oblast.
On the Lyman axis, Russian troops shelled the areas of Makiyivka, Ploschanka, Krasnopopivka in Luhansk Oblast, as well as Yampolivka, Torske and Vedmezhne in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Bakhmut axis, the invading forces fired in the areas of Soledar, Bakhmut, and 12 other settlements of Donetsk Oblast.
Avdiyivka, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, and five other settlements of Donetsk Oblast came under fire on the Avdiyivka axis.
On the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson axes, attacks from tanks, mortars, cannon and rocket artillery were registered near Vremivka and Novopil in Donetsk Oblast; Huliaypole, Orikhiv and three other settlements in Zaporizhzhya Oblast; Marhanets and Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast; Kherson, Bilozerka and eight other settlements in Kherson Oblast.
