Invading Russian forces are conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut area, toward the settlements of Zolote and Vovchoiarivka, Ukraine's General Staff said in a Facebook post on June 23.

The Ukrainian military said that the enemy was trying to seize the dominant heights in the area of Berestove in order to establish control over the Bakhmut-Lysychansk highway.

"To strengthen the group in this direction, the enemy transferred up to one battalion tactical group from the Central Military District to the area of the settlement of Novotoshkivske," reads the report.

In the Slovyansk direction, the aggressor's group focuses on improving the tactical situation and identifying weaknesses in the defense of Ukrainian troops.

"The enemy is trying to create conditions for the resumption of the offensive in the directions of Izyum – Barvinkove and Izyum – Slovyansk," the General Staff said.

"In order to strengthen the grouping of troops in the area of the town of Izyum, the enemy transferred up to two tank units. The invaders are planning to use heavy flamethrower systems in the Slovyansk direction."

The enemy did not take active action in the Kramatorsk, Avdiyivka, Kurakhove, Novopavlivka, and Zaporizhzhya directions. At the same time, the invaders are carrying out shelling in order to restrain the actions of the Defense Forces' units and prevent their transfer to other directions
