Russian drone strike ignited a parking lot blaze and damaged an animal shelter in Odesa Oblast, State Emergency Service (SES) reported on Oct. 8.
Firefighters deployed to the scene successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to the main administrative building and indoor animal housing quarters located immediately adjacent to the impact site.
On an adjoining parking lot, fire engulfed 14 passenger vehicles, while shrapnel and heat damaged an additional 13 parked cars. A total of 14 rescue personnel and three specialized SES emergency vehicles brought the blazes under control.
Nationwide Drone Assault on Oct. 8
Overnight into Oct. 8, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 142 strike unmanned aerial vehicles, consisting of Shahed-type drones (including 82 high-speed, jet-powered variants), Gerbera multi-purpose drones, and Parodiya-type radar-decoy simulators.
Ukrainian air defense and electronic warfare units intercepted, neutralized, or electronically jammed 126 enemy UAVs across multiple operational sectors.
Despite heavy interception rates, strike munitions hit seven distinct infrastructure locations nationwide, with falling wreckage and blast debris registered across four additional regional locations.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
