Russians assault Bakhmut, regroup in southern Ukraine, reports General Staff

Russian shelling was recorded near 10 settlements on the Bakhmut axis, including in the area of the city of Bakhmut itself, reported Ukraine’s General Staff in its Aug. 1 update on Facebook. Russian aircraft also struck near Kodema.

Meanwhile, the Russian army tried to conduct reconnaissance on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the Yakovlivka area, but the enemy recon group subsequently neutralized. Enemy troops also attempted assaults in the direction of Vershyna and Soledar, but were unsuccessful and retreated. The Russian forces are persisting with an offensive towards Bakhmut where hostilities continue.

No noteworthy military actions were observed on the Kramatorsk axis. Shelling was carried out from cannonry, rocket artillery, and tank weapons near seven settlements. Airstrikes were conducted near Hryhorivka and Spirne. 

On the Avdiyivka axis, the invading Russian forces shelled the areas of six settlements, including near the city of Avdiyivka. Airstrikes were carried out near Vesele. Assaults were noted in the direction of Pisky, which were unsuccessful, forcing the enemy to retreat. 

On the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia axes, Russian troops fired from cannon and rocket artillery near 11 settlements. Airstrikes were carried out near six settlements. The enemy carried out unsuccessful reconnaissance in the direction of Maryinka and left. Russian forces are currently regrouping on the Zaporizhzhia axis.
