Ukrainian forces continue their successful offensive in the southern part of the country, UK military intelligence said in its Twitter update on Oct. 13.

According to UK intelligence, after retreating around 20 kilometers in the north of the Kherson sector in early October, Russian forces are likely attempting to consolidate a new front line west of the village of Mylove.

The ministry noted that heavy fighting continues along this line, especially at the western end, where Ukrainian advances mean Russia’s flank is no longer protected by the Inhulets River.

Meanwhile, most of the Russia troops on this front line remain understrength VDV (airborne) units.

“In recent days, the Russian occupation authorities have likely ordered preparation for the evacuation of some civilians from Kherson,” the report says.

“It is likely that they anticipate combat extending to the city of Kherson itself.”

The UK daily newspaper The Telegraph reported on Oct. 5 that Ukraine could retake Crimea if it continues to recapture territory from fleeing Russian forces at its current rate.
