Ukraine tests AI-driven SPYS drone built to intercept jet Shaheds at 600 km/h

Ukrainian WIY Drones developed SPYS, an AI-powered anti-aircraft unmanned aerial complex designed to counter enemy strike and reconnaissance drones — including jet-powered Shahed drones — and cover military positions, mobile units, and critical infrastructure.
The first batch of 50 SPYS drones was delivered to the military for combat testing in July 2026.
Described by its developers as the fastest system in its class, SPYS drone is capable of reaching a maximum speed of up to 600 km/h, with a cruising speed of 250 km/h.

The complex features thermal imaging or daylight optical cameras, enabling round-the-clock operational capability.
Video channels switch instantaneously during mission execution without requiring the aircraft to land, ensuring continuous target tracking and monitoring.
Launches are conducted from the ground or a airborne carrier platform, with plans underway to engineer a specialized manual hand-launch system for operators.
Motors, explosive warheads, and electronic components are domestically manufactured and designed to withstand extreme operational loads.
The interceptor integrates with the RADA radar system and SkyMap digital software, allowing the drone to navigate autonomously into the designated target engagement zone.
"High flight dynamics enable the system to rapidly close the distance to the target and intercept it before it enters the protected zone," according to the official WIY Drones website.
Developers are also refining head-on engagement guidance, allowing the system to intercept incoming enemy drones during their final diving phase.
