Russian forces attacked Odesa overnight into Sept. 19, damaging an administrative building and infrastructure and leaving more than 178,000 households without electricity.
Odesa City Military Administration head Serhii Lysak reported the consequences of the attack on Telegram on Sept. 19.
No deaths or injuries were reported from the overnight strike as of the latest update.
One of the Russian strikes hit the same administrative building that had been attacked a day earlier, Odesa Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Kiper reported on Telegram on Sept. 19.
A fire broke out on the upper floors of the building but was extinguished by emergency crews.
Two residential buildings, a two-story educational facility, a passenger car and a minibus were also damaged across the region, the Odesa Oblast Military Administration said.
More than 178,000 households without electricity
More than 178,000 households in Odesa Oblast remained without electricity following the large-scale Russian attack, energy company DTEK reported on Telegram on Sept. 19.
The strikes caused emergency power outages in parts of Odesa Raion, including the Peresyp and Prymorskyi districts of Odesa.
The city could also experience disruptions to critical infrastructure and electric public transportation because of the outages, DTEK said.
Russian forces had attacked the same 11-story administrative building twice on the evening of Sept. 18.
Ten people were injured in those strikes, including two emergency workers.
The latest attack formed part of a wider Russian aerial assault against Ukraine overnight into Sept. 19.
Russia launched two Zircon anti-ship missiles and 174 drones of various types, Ukraine’s Air Force reported on Telegram on Sept. 19.
The drones included Shaheds — around half of them jet-powered — as well as Gerbera drones, Banderol/Dan-T loitering munitions and Parodiya decoys.
Ukraine’s air defenses shot down or suppressed 141 aerial targets as of 8 a.m.
The Air Force said Odesa and Kyiv oblasts were the main targets of the overnight attack.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
