300+ attack drones and 37 missiles hit Ukraine energy overnight - Zelenskyy

The strikes damaged infrastructure in Vinnytsia, Sumy and Poltava oblasts. In Nizhyn in Chernihiv Oblast, a post office was damaged and one person was wounded. In Kharkiv Oblast, critical infrastructure came under attack, including State Emergency Service, casualties reported.

“There is confirmation that the Russians are using double terror — they hit with Shahed drones equipped with cluster munitions, then follow up with repeated strikes meant to wound firefighters and energy workers who are trying to restore systems after the damage,” the president said.

Zelenskyy added that this autumn Russia is attacking energy infrastructure every single day. He called on Europe and the United States to increase pressure on Russia with sanctions and long-range strike capabilities. The president said he will discuss these points in his visits to Washington on Oct. 16-17.

Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Washington on Oct. 17 at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump. The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to force Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, including by supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine; the Financial Times has reported Washington may provide between 20 and 50 of these missiles. Trump also said he plans to discuss Ukraine’s intention to launch an offensive on the front during his talks with Zelenskyy.

On Oct. 16, the Air Force reported missile and UAV activity toward Poltava; explosions were heard in the city and oblast. Russian forces also struck Chernihiv and Kharkiv oblasts overnight.

In Poltava Oblast, falling debris from downed drones and missiles, as well as direct hits, damaged oil and gas industry facilities.

Emergency power outages began in the city of Kyiv and in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy oblasts.
