Ukraine’s SBU Security Service classified a car explosion in Odesa on Feb. 16 as a terrorist act, the agency announced in a statement.

The blast occurred at 7:49 a.m. near a residential building on Akademika Korolyova Street in the city’s Kyivskyi district. The driver of the Toyota vehicle, a 56-year-old man, was injured and hospitalized.

The SBU opened a criminal case under Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (terrorist act), which carries a possible life sentence. Investigators are working to establish all circumstances and identify those responsible.

Earlier on Feb. 16, police reported the explosion of a Toyota car, with one man injured.

The incident is the second car explosion on Akademika Korolyova Street in recent weeks. On Feb. 6, a Toyota exploded in the same area, killing a 21-year-old man. That case was also classified as a terrorist act.
