Russia launches second consecutive night of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine

Russia carries out the second night in a row of massive combined drone and missile attacks on Ukraine on Aug. 27, with explosions reported in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya, Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and other cities across the country.

Air defense was engaged in repelling several waves of attacks with Shahed drones and ballistic missiles on Kyiv, triggering multiple air raid alerts in the capital and most other parts of Ukraine.

Russian ballistic missiles were reported in Kyiv’s suburbs of Vasylkiv and Obukhiv. 

At least two civilians were killed and four others wounded in the city of Zaporizhzhya. Several houses were destroyed and fires were reported.

“Preliminarily, the Russians have carried out seven strikes with unmanned aerial vehicles on the territory of Zaporizhzhya and Zaporizhzhya district. One man was killed, a man and a woman were wounded,” regional governor Ivan Fedorov wrote in his first report on Telegram shortly after the deadly strike.

Two people were killed and at least five others injured in a Russian attack on a hotel in the city of Kryvyi Rih, the State Emergencies Service reported. 

Six shops, 4 apartment buildings, and 8 cars were damaged. Rescue efforts are under way. More people may be trapped under the rubble.

Repeated explosions were reported in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired missiles at Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Cherkasy oblasts overnight. Enemy drones were spotted in Mykolaiv, Cherkasy Kyiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Poltava oblasts.

A Russian MiG-31 jet and several TU-95MS strategic bombers were also reported to have taken off from the Engels military airbase.
