A dip in the monthly intake of mobilized recruits has motivated the Ukrainian government to suspend and review the process of granting mobilization deferments to employees of “critical enterprises,” an informed government source told NV on Oct. 10.

The official reason for the suspension was described as “dissatisfaction” by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with 1.5 million eligible Ukrainian men having been granted deferments in recent months.

Our source added that the monthly intake of mobilized recruits has started to fall. Additionally, some companies were designated as “critical” for the national economy on "dubious" grounds.

“The number of exemptions has increased significantly, which has, in turn, considerably reduced the number of those mobilized,” the source said.“Some cases of granting 'critical infrastructure' status to enterprises seem dubious — like certain cafes, for instance.”Government officials will now review the list of critical enterprises exempt from mobilization, before resuming considering new deferment applications.
