Russian drone strikes central Chernihiv high-rise on Independence Day, injuring 14 - video

Russian forces struck a high-rise residential building in downtown Chernihiv with a strike drone, injuring 14 civilians, including two children, Head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration Dmytro Bryzhynskyi reported on Aug. 24.

The drone directly hit the multi-story residential building, igniting a major structural fire. The casualty toll rose to 14 injured, among them two teenagers aged 12 and 17.

Three victims were hospitalized with moderate injuries, while 11 others sustained lighter wounds and received medical assistance at the scene.

Public broadcaster Suspilne released video footage showing heavy damage to the high-rise structure and adjacent residential infrastructure following the strike.

Head of the Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration Vyacheslav Chaus condemned the strike as a deliberate and cynical assault timed for Ukraine's Independence Day.

"Rescue crews are working on-site to extinguish the fire at the impact point. Medics are providing all necessary care to the victims. All emergency services are present at the scene. The full attack aftermath is being verified," Chaus stated.
