Duda highlighted that Trump is the only person who can force Putin to come to the negotiating table.
“The USA can use various economic tools to force Russia to respect certain actions. So if anyone can make Vladimir Putin agree to peace, it’s the USA — the President of the United States,” he said.
The Polish president is confident that Trump “has seen reality” after recent contacts with Putin and that he has “the necessary tools to block Putin’s core interests.”
“He can now see what his position is and to what extent he is willing to engage in serious talks about ending the war,” Duda said.
The Polish president also added that the US president has the means to “force Russia to comply.”
“Some of these means may be very radical, very tough, I believe — especially various economic tools. But I believe President Donald Trump is capable of using them,” he concluded.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that a meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is “necessary.”
On March 18, Putin and Trump held a second phone call, during which they discussed the war in Ukraine. The call took place a week after US and Ukrainian delegations reached an agreement on a 30-day ceasefire in Saudi Arabia — which Russia rejected.
Their first conversation took place on Feb. 12.
