Satellites spot massive fires tearing through Russia's Dzhankoy airbase in Crimea

Satellite data indicated that the fire broke out around midday on Aug. 30. Intense thermal anomalies and structural blazes were detected across the vehicle depot, fuel storage tanks, and an adjacent electrical substation.

Dzhankoy airfield serves as a primary military airbase in northern Crimea heavily utilized by Russian occupation forces. Open-source intelligence indicates the installation hosts the 39th Helicopter Regiment of the 27th Composite Aviation Division, deploying Mi-8, Mi-35M, Mi-28, and Ka-52 attack helicopters, alongside aviation assets belonging to the FSB Border Guard Service.

On Aug. 30, satellite sensors detected a major fire at the Hvardiyske airfield in occupied Crimea, pinpointing fires centered around aircraft hangar facilities.

AFU General Staff later confirmed successful strikes against Russian facilities near Hvardiyske used for storing, prepping, and launching one-way attack uncrewed aerial vehicles.
