She urged the international community to help persuade Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to engage in negotiations.
“As long as Putin does not want to sit down at the negotiating table, the termination of our support for Ukraine's self-defense will mean depriving Ukrainian hospitals and children of security,” she said, recalling the bombing of the Okhmadyt children's hospital in Kyiv after Russia was invited to a Global Peace Summit.
“This will lead to an increase in the number of wars, not a decrease. Perhaps in other countries as well.”
Baerbock also highlighted Russia's repeated “games with the inviolability of the borders of the Baltic states and Poland.”
“Not only for the sake of our security, but also in your interest. If a permanent member of the UN Security Council is allowed to conquer and destroy its smaller neighbor, the very essence of the UN Charter is under attack.”
On Sept. 10. Baerbock expressed her skepticism about the possibility of conducting genuine peace negotiations with Putin.
