Ukraine's battle-tested tactics can shield U.S. forces from Iranian swarms - ISW

In addition to the U.S., several Persian Gulf countries are also showing interest in Ukrainian developments in the field of countering drones, analysts noted.

The UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait are likely showing interest in these systems. However, there has not yet been an official statement on this matter.

ISW emphasized that Ukraine has accumulated unique experience in countering Iranian drones. In Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian military personnel were able to systematize the acquired knowledge and put it into practice.

"Ukraine's institutional knowledge has allowed Ukrainian firms to rapidly develop and refine capabilities explicitly tailored to counter Iranian-origin weapons, and continued investment in Ukraine's defense industrial base is critical not only to Ukraine's security but also to the United States and its allies," ISW concluded.

On March 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian drone interception experts will arrive in the Middle East next week.

On March 5, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine received a request from the U.S. for assistance in defending against Shaheds in the Middle East. He noted that he instructed to provide the necessary resources, as well as to ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee security in the Middle East.

Reuters agency, citing an informed source, wrote that the U.S. requested assistance in defending its bases and soldiers in some Middle Eastern countries, and Ukrainian President gave the corresponding order to the Ukrainian military.

Zelenskyy earlier said he instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, as well as military commands and intelligence, to develop options for supporting Middle Eastern countries so that this, in turn, would not weaken Ukraine's defense.

On March 2, Bloomberg agency, which spoke with Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone, reported that the president offered to send the best Ukrainian specialists in destroying Iranian drones to the Middle East if the leaders of these countries convince Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to agree to a one-month truce in the war against Ukraine.

Zelenskyy stated that a ceasefire could also be declared for two months or two weeks so that Ukraine could help the countries of the Middle East.

President also suggested that Ukraine could exchange interceptor drones for missiles for Patriot systems. Zelenskyy explained that the Persian Gulf countries have PAC-3 missiles, but it is impractical to waste them on shooting down Iranian drones.

Ukraine could transfer interceptor drones and instead receive the missiles it currently lacks.

On Feb. 28, a joint U.S. and Israeli operation against Iran began. The countries are attacking Tehran and other major cities. 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of an attack on his residence on the first day of the operation.

In response to the attacks, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel. Also, Iranian missiles and drones attacked U.S. military bases in Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. In particular, numerous explosions were reported in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh.

Attacks also continued on other days. According to U.S. President Donald Trump, the war with Iran will last about four weeks.
