Russian massive attack on Kyiv left trail of destruction across 27 locations across the city, including iconic buildings of the National Technical University of Ukraine, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), the officials wrote on June 17.

KPI staff posted photos showing destruction in the post on Telegram. In the university’s historic buildings, dating back to the late 19th century, windows were shattered.

“Buildings and facilities in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute sustained damage, including the historic Building No. 4, whose foundations were laid on June 1, 1898 — marking the beginning of the university’s construction,” the statement reads.

In addition to KPI’s buildings, a dormitory of the Kyiv Aviation Institute was also damaged. Two students were injured but received medical care and have since been discharged from the hospital.

During the night attack, Russian forces used 175 drones, 14+ cruise missiles, and at least two ballistic missiles to target Kyiv and surrounding areas.

Fifteen people were killed in the capital, and more than 114 were injured.

By death toll, this is the deadliest Russian attack on Kyiv since the July 8, 2024 strike on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital, which killed 33 people in multiple districts.

Another major attack on April 24, 2025, killed 13 civilians.
