Russia's drone attack on Odesa injures children and damages infrastructure

Updated at 9:10 a.m.: Russia struck the ports of Greater Odesa and facilities supporting the operations of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reported on the morning of April 27.

"The ports of Greater Odesa are under daily enemy attacks again," the USPA statement read.

"An overnight Russian strike damaged an energy facility at a cargo terminal and sparked local fires, which have already been extinguished."

Greater Odesa is the name of the Odesa agglomeration centered around the city of Odesa, stretching 120 kilometers along the Black Sea. It consists of the cities of Odesa, Chornomorsk, Teplodar, Pivdenne, and Biliaivka.

The Nauru-flagged commercial vessel RAMCO was also attacked while moving through the Ukrainian maritime corridor. The ship sustained minor damage, and the crew extinguished a fire on board. There are preliminarily no casualties.

Updated at 8:36 a.m.: The number of victims in Odesa rose to 11, with fires breaking out in a multi-story building, a hotel, and summer houses, while funicular structures and cars also burned, the State Emergency Service (SES) reported.

Two children are among the 11 victims, rescuers reported.

"Apartments were destroyed and a fire broke out due to a hit on a multi-story building," SES clarified.

"A private house and a 15th-floor apartment were also damaged. A hotel, cars, trucks, and summer houses caught fire. The fire engulfed an abandoned store and Odesa funicular structures."

All fires have now been extinguished. Odesa's residential sector and civilian infrastructure came under attack.

Updated at 7:10 a.m.: Damage was recorded in three districts of Odesa, with downtown facilities, a hotel, and residential buildings affected, and 10 victims reported, Oblast Military Administration reported.

Odesa OVA head Serhii Lysak released these data as of the morning of April 27.

"The night was extremely difficult," he cocluded.

"The enemy carried out a massive attack on residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure in Odesa."

The aftermath of the attack was recorded in three districts:

• The Prymorskyi district sustained the most damage: residential buildings, a hotel, and downtown facilities were affected. The majority of the victims, including children, were injured here.

• Russians hit multi-story residential buildings, private developments, and vehicles in the Khadzhybeiskyi and Kyivskyi districts.

Lysak also published photos of the attack's aftermath.

Russians attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa Oblast on the night of April 26. The strike damaged warehouses, technical equipment, tanks, and a civilian vessel under the flag of Palau.

This attack came only two days after the Russian forces struck Odesa residential buildings and left two people killed.
