Apartment buildings hit in overnight strike on Odesa - photo report

Residential buildings were damaged, people injured, and search-and-rescue operations are ongoing after the mass Russian attack on Odesa, State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported and shared the photos from the site on Jan. 27.

Several residential buildings were damaged in the attack. One two-story house was partially destroyed, while at another location an apartment on the second floor was completely ruined. In a four-story residential building, apartments on the second through fourth floors sustained damage.

Emergency services also reported that a strike on a nine-story apartment building triggered fires on the fourth and fifth floors. In addition, a cultural and religious facility was damaged, windows were shattered in nearby buildings, and cars were damaged by debris.

Rescuers evacuated residents of damaged apartments to Invincibility Points and saved 14 people, including three children, SES said.

A total of eight people were injured, including two children. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service and the National Police are working at the scene, while heating points have been set up with the support of local authorities.

Preliminary reports indicate that three people may still be trapped under the rubble. Emergency rescue operations are continuing with the involvement of canine units. Authorities stressed that the information is being updated.

On the night of Jan. 22, a Russian drone struck a high-rise residential building in the Odesa district, hitting between the 18th and 19th floors. A young man born in 2009 was killed in that attack. Fifty-eight residents, including eight children, were evacuated from the building.
