Russia rains 433 missiles, drones across Ukraine

Russia carried out one of its largest combined air assaults on Ukraine overnight, targeting critical infrastructure across the country with hundreds of drones and missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram on Oct. 22.

From 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 to noon on Oct. 22, Ukrainian air defenses detected and tracked 433 aerial targets, including 15 ballistic and 13 cruise missiles, as well as 405 attack drones of various types. Approximately 250 of the UAVs were Shahed drones.

A total of 349 enemy targets were destroyed, including 333 drones, eight Iskander-K cruise missiles, six Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, and two Kh-59/69 guided air missiles.

Russia’s assault included:

  • 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles
  • 9 Iskander-K cruise missiles
  • 4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles
  • 4 Kh-59/69 guided air missiles
  • 405 Shahed and Gerbera attack drones.

The attack focused on Kyiv Oblast. Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Odesa oblasts were also targeted.

By midday, 12 missiles and 55 drones had directly hit 26 sites across Ukraine, and debris was reported in an additional 19 sites. Seventeen drones failed to reach their targets.
