Russia carries out ninth mass attack on DTEK thermal power plants

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, DTEK thermal power stations have been attacked more than 220 times. As a result of these strikes, 59 power plant workers have been injured and four killed, the company said.

Despite harsh weather conditions, Russia launched another large-scale strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight on Feb. 3. The attack came in several waves, involving ballistic missiles, Shahed drones, and Kh-22 and Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from strategic aviation aircraft.

The heaviest strikes overnight hit Kyiv and the Kyiv Oblast, Kharkiv and the Kharkiv Oblast, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, and Odesa Oblast. Explosions were also reported in Zaporizhzhya.

In Kyiv, Russian strikes caused damage in the Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts. As of the morning, three people were reported injured in the capital.

In Kharkiv, authorities were forced to take an emergency technical measure by draining the heating system in 820 residential buildings supplied by the city’s largest thermal power plant. According to local officials, this was the only possible step to prevent freezing and catastrophic failure of the heating network.
