Slavutych in Kyiv Oblast was left almost entirely without electricity after a Russian overnight attack, with nearly 8,500 households cut off from power, local governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported on Jan. 5.

Russia struck energy system, leaving the city without centralized electricity supply.

Critical infrastructure facilities have been switched to backup power, meaning heating and water supply remain available in the city, Kalashnyk said. Social institutions have moved to generators and battery power, while mobile communications and internet services remain operational.

Energy workers are already working to restore electricity. Points of resilience are operating in Slavutych, regional governor added.

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry confirmed that Slavutych faced blackout following the latest Russian attack on energy infrastructure facilities and that emergency repair work is ongoing.

Overnight on Jan. 5, Russia attacked Kyiv and its suburbs with drones. One person was killed in Kyiv, and four others were injured.

In the Fastiv district of Kyiv Oblast, one person was also killed, and several private homes were damaged.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched nine missiles and 165 drones overnight, 137 of which were neutralized.
