Photos capture thick smoke over Kyiv Oblast town after massive Russian attack

Social media channels reported extensive fires in the Boryspil area following the overnight Russian attack.

Overnight on Aug. 20, Russian forces launched a large-scale combined assault against Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast utilizing ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and strike drones.

12 people were killed and more than 30 were injured, with widespread destruction and fires recorded across multiple city districts. Damage affected apartment buildings, a school, a children's hospital, warehouses, and other infrastructure.

Strikes also targeted the nearby towns of Brovary and Boryspil.

Parts of Kyiv’s Svyatoshynskyi and Solomyanskyi districts were left without electricity. Power disruptions were also recorded in the Brovary municipality across Kyiv Oblast due to damage inflicted on energy infrastructure assets.

Damage to regional rail infrastructure forced national railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia to alter transit routes and cancel several suburban and regional passenger trains on Aug. 20, with numerous scheduled services operating under significant delays.
