Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) unit carried out a successful reconnaissance-combat operation on the North-Slobozhansky axis, eliminating the enemy soldiers and returning unharmed, the military reported on Oct. 15.

The group of operators advanced beyond Ukraine’s frontline positions and covertly entered territory controlled by the invading army.

After additional drone reconnaissance, the special operators launched assault actions they had previously practiced during training and prior operations.

“The group’s main firepower, the machine-gunner, suppressed the enemy with fire," SSO said.

"A marksman with optics took out enemies hiding with precise single shots. Another subteam of special forces closed in on the positions and engaged the Russians at close range.”

The SSO reported that the disoriented Russian troops were completely neutralized. Ukrainian special operators captured the enemy’s documents and communications equipment, then returned to their positions without losses.

North-Slobozhansky axis is a sector the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine introduced into its regular reports on June 16, 2025, after an uptick in Russian activity near Sumy Oblast border.

On Sept. 9, the SSO reported that fighters from the 8th Regiment of the Special Operations Forces foiled a Russian attempt to break through to a key Ukrainian position on the North-Slobozhansky axis. The unit repelled roughly 20 attacks, disrupted enemy plans and held critical defensive lines.

At that time, Syrskyi also reported positive trends on the frontline in the border districts of Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts.
