Ukraine’s air defense successfully took out six of eight Shahed drones and two of three guided Kh-59\69 missiles in the Russian overnight attack, the Air Force reported early on Sept. 9.
Missiles and drones were launched from the airspace over Kursk Oblast and occupied Donetsk.
One missile failed to reach its target, the Air Force said. Two drones "lost radar contact" over Ukraine, likely due to electronic warfare (EW) measures, while the remaining targets were eliminated.
Air defense systems operated in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.
Explosions could be heard in Kyiv.
All drones targeting the capital were successfully neutralized, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported.
