The General Staff reported that explosions and a fire were recorded in the area of the facility. The exact strike consequences are being clarified.
According to the General Staff, Saratov refinery specializes in producing gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, various grades of bitumen, vacuum gas oil, technical sulfur, and more — in total, over 20 types of petroleum products.
Its refining volume in 2023 amounted to 4.8 million tons. The refinery is directly involved in supplying the needs of the Russian armed forces.
“The Defense Forces of Ukraine are consistently taking measures aimed at undermining the military and economic potential of Russia — in particular, its ability to supply occupation troops with fuel, ammunition, and weapons — as well as at ending armed aggression against Ukraine,” General Staff explained.
This attack comes shortly after Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, Russia, suspended operations following Ukrainian drone strike on Aug. 28.
On the night of Aug. 28, fires were reported at refineries in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai and Samara Oblast. Later, the commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Madyar Brovdi, confirmed the strikes on these facilities, noting that Russia had lost another 4.7% of its fuel production capacity as a result.
The Kuibyshev refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oils, and solvents — more than 30 types of petroleum products in total — and has a refining capacity of 7 million tons of oil per year.
“Explosions and a fire were recorded on the refinery’s territory,” the General Staff reported then.
