Ukraine calls for air defense and long-range capabilities amid recent Russian attacks

He made this statement to address the series of severe Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhya, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Kyiv Oblast that took place overnight on Nov. 8, leaving dozens injured and causing significant damage.

The number of those affected in Kharkiv has risen to over 20 due to strikes on residential buildings and infrastructure. In Odesa, one person was killed, and nine others were injured. In Zaporizhzhia, rescue operations are ongoing following an aerial bomb attack that claimed the lives of nine people and injured over 40, including four children.

The president expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian military for intercepting four aerial missiles and downing 62 out of 92 drones during the night’s attack, but also urged Ukraine's allies to provide more capabilities to counter Russian terror.

“Ukraine needs the strength to achieve this," he stressed.

"This is the only way to ensure a just peace and stop the deaths of our people. Air defense systems, long-range capabilities, weapon packages, and sanctions against the aggressor—these are the necessary responses, not just in words but in action."

In Kyiv Oblast, four people were injured by falling debris from the Russian missile attack. Odesa suffered drone strikes, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries. In Kharkiv, Russian forces hit an apartment building in the Saltivka district and the city center with guided bombs, leading to 25 casualties in the damaged building.

Russian forces also launched a deadly strike on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhya overnight on Nov. 7, claiming the lives of nine people, including a one-year-old boy.
