Zelensky thanks Biden for calling Russian invaders' atrocities ‘genocide’

"True words of a true leader. Calling things by their names is essential to standing up to evil," Zelensky tweeted on April 13.

He also thanked the United States for providing assistance and called on the U.S. government to supply more weapons to Ukraine.

"We are grateful for the U.S. assistance provided so far, but we urgently need more heavy weapons to prevent further Russian atrocities."

On April 12, U.S. President Joe Biden said that Americans' budgets shouldn't depend on whether a dictator "commits genocide" in another country.

"Your family budget, your ability to fill up your tank, none of it should hinge on whether a dictator declares war and commits genocide a half a world away," Biden said in Iowa, where he was unveiling a new rule on ethanol, the CNN television channel reported on April 12.

On April 6, Polish President Andrzej Duda in an interview with CNN also said that it's "hard to deny" that Russian forces are committing genocide in Ukraine following the horrific images that have emerged from cities like Bucha, showing civilians brutally killed.
