Russian drone attack on Ukraine’s Odesa Oblast destroyed facilities of Akkerman Distillery - famous Ukrainian wine and brandy producer, local governor Oleh Kiper reported on Sept. 28.

He highlighted that the strike hit civilian infrastructure.

“Despite the effective work of air defense, the strike destroyed a production hall and a finished-goods warehouse of a wine plant," Kiper said.

"A shift of 50 workers was evacuated. The roof and windows of a nearby private home were also damaged.”

Akkerman Distillery confirmed the damage in a Facebook statement.

“Overnight on Sept. 28, the aggressor carried out a massive strike on our facility — this is where we produced our Aznauri brandy for the Ukrainian market,"  the company said.

"The bottling hall and warehouses were destroyed. It’s a heavy blow to our team and to the entire market.”

No casualties were reported. Akkerman Distillery noted that it still has stockpiled finished products available for sale.

“We are already working on restoring production and are confident we’ll return even stronger,” the company added.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
