Chernihiv hit by Shahed drones: homes burn, civilians hospitalized
The Russian forces launched a drone attack on the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, sparking multiple fires and injuring four people, State Emergency Service (SES) reported early on June 3.
The attack damaged residential and industrial buildings as well as vehicles.
In one residential area, a house, utility building, garage, and three cars were completely destroyed by fire. One person was injured. An additional four vehicles and around eight buildings were damaged before firefighters extinguished the blaze.
A second fire broke out next to an apartment building, where debris injured three more people and destroyed another car. Five vehicles, a store, and the windows of a high-rise building were also damaged.
The SES reported another fire at a local industrial facility.
Chernihiv Military Administration head Dmytro Bryzhynskyi reported that the injured include two women and two men, both men suffering serious injuries. All four are now hospitalized.
Bryzhynskyi added that the Russian strike damaged an apartment block, private homes, a school, and an industrial site.
The drone attack was part of a broader Russian overnight assault that triggered air raid alerts across multiple oblasts, including Odesa and Poltava. Explosions were heard in several cities.
In Odesa, the strikes damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Several vehicles caught fire. Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said there were no casualties reported so far.
