Russian troops try to storm outside Severodonetsk, says Luhansk governor

Fighting continues in Severodonetsk, with Russian troops trying to storm settlements around the town, Luhansk Regional Governor Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram messenger post on June 18.

"They are repeatedly, again and again, shelling the area near all the bridges, which are no longer suitable for movement," he said.

Hayday added that Synetskyi and Pavlohrad outside Severodonetsk had come under fire. The invaders also hit the transport workshop at the Azot chemical plant.

According to the governor, Russian troops also twice shelled residential neighborhoods near the former Donsoda plant in Lysychansk. In total, 13 houses were destroyed in Hirske, and another 14 in Vrubivka.

The enemy also fired at Metiolkine, Ustynivka, Mykolaivka, Bilohorivka, Voronove, Zolote, and Troitske with artillery and multiple rocket launchers. The Syrotyne and Borivske districts were hit by Russian air strikes.

Hayday said the Ukrainian military had successfully repulsed enemy assaults near Syrotyne and Metiolkine. The invaders retreated to their previously occupied positions, as well as to positions near Hirske. Moreover, with the support of artillery, the Russians attempted an assault near Nyrkove, but were unsuccessful.

On June 17, five people who were recently injured were hospitalized in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. They are four residents of Lysychansk and one of Severodonetsk who came under fire in Lysychansk.
